Meeting at the Market: Photographs by Margaret Miyake
The Link Gallery at City Hall, May 4 - August 2, 2010
Meeting at the Market, a photography exhibit by Margaret W. Miyake, will be on display at the Link Gallery at City Hall, Rochester, New York, from May 4 to August 2. The opening reception will be Friday evening, May 7, from 5:00 to 6:30. The public is welcome.
Rochester Public Market shoppers, including gourmets and chefs hunting for the finest ingredients, "Locavores" and "Slow Food" advocates seeking locally-grown organic food, recent immigrants looking for unique ethnic foods, and everyone interested in good food at reasonable prices have been coming to the market for over 100 years. Meeting at the Market documents this well-established, traditional food chain, from farmers working their land to selling their produce at the Rochester Public Market. It's a great way to see where your next meal could come from.
Miyake has been photographing at the Rochester Public Market since 2006. In 2009 she received an Individual Artist Grant from the Arts & Cultural Council for Greater Rochester to photograph farmers in Monroe County on their farms and at the market. Miyake has also worked at the George Eastman House in the Education Department utilizing photography as a teaching tool. She has been actively photographing for freelance articles and personal projects. According to Miyake, "Photography is my way to observe the world and express the fascination and interest I find in people and places."
